St George region is located between 12 – 17km south of Sydney’s CBD. This area has a diverse mix of cultures. The major centres are popular choices for Asian migrants to settle, with Hurstville dubbed as “Sydney’s real Chinatown”, and is the largest central business district in Southern Sydney.
Most people know this area as the home of one of most successful NRL teams, St George Illawarra Dragons and the St George Bank.
The new George River Council has managed this region since 2016, amalgamating the Blakehurst, Hurstville, Kogarah Bay, Mortdale and Peakhurst wards. The local council events contribute to the thriving local culture in the area. One of the events that has the Starlight Cinema and night markets, held in public spaces around the region.

The first Starlight Cinema screening was held at Jubilee Park Adventure Playground in Mortdale on the 24th of February of the popular Lego Batman movie.
