The Illawarra region is on the coast to the South of Sydney and includes the cities of Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama.
This area is a popular holiday destination due to its beautiful beaches, scenic bush and national parks, and close proximity to Sydney. There is a variety of accommodation available from cheap hostels and backpackers, family friendly camping and cabins to luxury hotels.
One of the places that provides a great family friendly camping option is Lake Illawarra, in Shellharbour. Lake Illawarra lies between the Pacific Ocean and Illawarra Escarpment with fresh water (from the Escarpment) and salty water (from ocean tides) flowing into it. It is a popular spot for prawning, fishing and all water sports.
During the summer months, families flock to the camping areas. Reddalls Reserve, which is on the foreshore of the Lake is a popular hangout spot due to its playground, kiosk and amenities.
Every year Reddalls Reserve hosts an annual Australia Day celebration, which is popular with both locals and holiday makers in the area. The day starts bright and early at 7am with a generous $4 breakfast (served till 10am). The day includes a citizenship ceremony, civic ceremony to present the Australia Day Citizen Awards, ambassador address with free entertainment to follow.
It’s a fun day for the family and the entertainment includes live music, sand modelling competition, animal farm, pony rides, face painting and more. There is definitely a lack of comfortable seating at this event which can make staying at the event difficult for some families. For large groups that are keen to set themselves up for the day, outdoor beanbags are a fantastic way to ensure that you celebrate in comfort.
Outdoor Beanbag Hire can provide generously sized, bright coloured, vinyl outdoor beanbags that are perfect for enjoying the festival atmosphere. Their bags can be converted between an upright seat (by tucking the end under the middle seat part) for stability and the traditional lazy lounge position – which is like a portable couch (and can be shared between two people if necessary).
They are touch enough to be dragged around outside in any weather, and can be easily wiped clean of mud, spilt drinks or sticky messes. When you are ready to leave, they are lightweight and easy to carry back to your car or campground. If you are camping, you could hire your beanbags for the entire trip and have the added bonus of extra comfort while camping too.
Happy holidays 🙂
